1. Historic German Village Marker

Inscription. C.F. Jaeger platted this lot in 1869 and in 1881, the lot sold, by Sophia Jaeger, to Paul Schumacher. Paul Schumacher was a carpenter and built this 1½ story brick cottage. Lorenz Schwartz, a railcar repairer, purchased the home in 1886. After a few years, Schwartz split the lot to build a neighboring home for his family and used this residence as a rental. In 1911, Schwartz rented the property to his son John Schwartz, a blacksmith, and his spouse Katherine who resided in the home for over 50 years. The home then remained in the Schwartz family for more than thirty-five years.
