Inscription. Multiple deployments throughout the world and a high operational tempo in the Global War on Terror required a change to Army organization. The Brigade Combat Team (BCT) replaced the Division to become the prime element of combat power. BCTs were organized as multifunctional units with all the combat, combat service, and combat service support necessary to deploy and conduct sustained operations.

Each BCT in the Division was assigned a Brigade Support Battalion (BSB). The logisticians of the BSBs provide the sustainment needs of a deployed BCT. The Division Support Command (DISCOM) became the 101 Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade in the Modularity reorganization.

The 101st Sustainment Brigade is fully modular and in possession of the technology and liaison officers necessary to work directly for any unit of employment, joint headquarters, multinational headquarters, or non-governmental organization, as required. It can acquire multiple subunits with specific logistics skills and equipment tailored to the needs of the assigned mission.
