1. The Williams Hotel Marker
Inscription. On this site in 1877 the Williams Hotel was constructed, at a cost of $40,000 by William H. Williams. The hotel, with its 150-seat restaurant, bar, and nine businesses, was a welcome respite for weary train and stage travelers. Among the names found in the hotel register were Cadillac, Studebaker, and others.

The hotel was destroyed by fire on February 22, 1923.

Thanks to funds raised by the Citizens for a Better Williams, donations made by a host of believers, and the efforts of California muralist John Ton, the Williams Hotel once again graces the corner of 7th and E Streets.

CBW extends a special thank you to the Hal Stober Family for their generous donation, and to Masonic Hall owners Kevin and Patricia Ash for helping realize the vision for this mural.
