1. St. James Anglican Church Marker

Inscription. In 1842 services, according to the Anglican Rite, were first held in a building erected opposite this site which served as a school house and church. The nave of St. James Church was built in 1854. The Canada Land Company formally deeded this site to St. James for a church and burying ground in 1857. The parish was part of the Diocese of Toronto until 1858 when the Diocese of Huron was formed. The chancel and porch were added in 1880. The tower was built in 1896 to house the bell donated by Samuel Mark. When weekly services were discontinued in 1931 St. James was designated a funeral chapel.
