1. Wood Family Office Marker
Inscription. This house was built about 1870 by William P. Miller who operated a furniture store and undertaking service with his son, George.

The furniture store was at 25 N High. At a later date, Col. William Wilson, a retired military man and village zoning officer, lived here for 20 years.

Regarding Wood Family Office. Excerpt from the National Register nomination for the North High Street Historic District, which includes this property:
William P. Miller's House was presumably one of the first constructed along this section of High Street, c. 1870, during this period of expansion. W.P. Miller was the developer of this area, acquiring the acreage in 1864 and platting it in 1869 (west side of High) and 1870 (east side of High). A 2 acre parcel was set aside with this house, larger than any other lot in the plat. Miller was a builder (carpenter) in the 1850's and 1860's, working in tandem with John Miller, a brickmason. Among the structures they built were the Winchester Mills (1868) and the Canal Winchester School (1861-2). W.P. Miller opened a furniture and undertaking store two buildings to the south on High Street in the 1870's, which his son George W. Miller continued into the 20th century. Miller, who died in 1906, was called the “builder of the town” in a 1907 publication,

which praised his influence on the growth and development of Canal Winchester. The W.P. Miller House, presumed to have been built by Miller, has some Gothic Revival influence with the intersecting gable roofline, arched multiple light windows in the gable ends and front facing gable.
