Buildings of a commercial nature include the Madison Grange #194 and Shop, constructed in 1874 The grange is a two story brick building of rectangular plan. The gable roof has a projecting cornice and two interior brick chimneys and the ridge is perpendicular to the street. The windows are two over two light double hung with plain cutstone lug sill and lintels. The brick has "nu-bricking" on it and the commercial storefront has been altered with brick infill and newer windows. There are two single door entries on the south elevation and a few rear window openings which have original louvered shutters.
The Grange is significant as a social resource, serving as a meeting hall. Its first floor was in commercial use.
Madison Grange No. 194 was chartered on March 23, 1874. It initially met in the Samuel Bartlit building before erecting this building.
