Inscription.

wall in 1335. The core of the marlstone castle Den Halder consists of a rectangular corner tower from the 14th century of that wall. The wall tower had battlements at the time, but was converted into a residential tower and therefore raised by one floor and provided with a roof. Further reinforcement followed in 1464-1465 with the construction of four protruding corner towers, including the Haldertoren.

Records indicate that Hendrik van Birclaers bequeathed the house and plot as early as 1381, and after him there came many families into ownership such as Franke, Van Amstenraede, Van Eldeborn and the noble Van Meer family. As a result, various extensions and renovations took place from the 17th century to the beginning of the 20th century. The municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul had it restored after the Second World War and turned part of the estate into a city park.
