Springboro was also home to the Miami Valley College, an experiment in higher education established by the Religious Society of Friends as an institution which emphasized mental, physical and practical education for both men and women.
Within the historic district, the Wallace Baird house at 420 S. Main Street has a strong association withthe school. It was built in 1878 for Baird, who had come to Springboro as head of the Mechanical Department at Miami Valley College.
