Inscription. South Philadelphia is best known for its open-air Italian Market, a unique Philadelphia treasure. Ninth Street from Catharine Street to Wharton Street is lined with gourmet shops that have been family owned for generations. Small grocery stores provide everything from handmade pasta and cheese, fresh herbs and sausages, to seafood and fresh olives. An Old World experience is created when shops selling produce spill out onto the sidewalks along 9th Street.
