Chiloquin in Klamath County, Oregon — The American West (Northwest)
Weyerhaeuser Snow Dozier WX031
One of three built circa 1941 by Weyerhaeuser employees at the Klamath Falls Oregon shops. This dozier was built on a second hand 40 foot flatcar following a Great Northern Railway design.
Weyerhaeuser logging railroads were a 12 month operation with this dozier seeing service on Illy Mountain east of Sprague River, Oregon.
The wings and nose plows are operated by compressed air through a system of cylinders, pulleys and cables. The compressed air was provided by a following locomotive.
A crew of at least two employees were required to operate the dozier, one on each side of the cab in front of the dozier where they had a good view of the track ahead. Wings and nose plow were operated on the safest manner from this vantage point.
Before radios, whistle signals were used to communicate with the Locomotive Engineer that was shoving the dozier.
