Wohnhaus der Großeltern der Brüder Grimm
⎯⎯⎯
Residence of the Grandparents of the Brothers Grimm
Inscription.
Home of the Brothers Grimm's grandparents
The home of the Brothers Grimm's maternal grandparents stood here. It was destroyed in an air raid on March 19, 1945, like the entire city center, during the Second World War.
Councilor Zimmer lived in Hanau with his wife in retirement.
Jacob Grimm remembers: "He was characterized by kindness, gentleness and forbearance. He died, or rather he fell asleep without illness, at the age of almost 90, still in full possession of his mental faculties; our grandmother had preceded him. Both treated us with the great tenderness that grandchildren usually receive, and I still remember very well how, when we later visited him from Steinau, grandfather often sat with us for hours, laid his trembling hands on the table and watched us copy the engravings from Niebuhr's Arabian journey. Until his death he gave us the dearest lessons in his letters."
Erected 2012.
