1. Corn Exchange Marker
Inscription.
This building was erected in 1838 as the Corn Exchange and Market House by the architect Owen Brown Carter. After closure of the Market the structure was used as a roller skating rink and later became the Regent Cinema. The Library Service moved here from overcrowded premises in the Guildhall in 1936. More than a quarter of a million books were loaned in the first year.
