More about this marker. Marker was installed in 2004 to replace a weather-beaten 28-year-old sign. Marker was sponsored by the Noble County Historical Society. Mapes family added flowers and landscaping and has maintained the landscaping around the sign since.
Regarding Arthur F. Mapes 1913-1986. Indiana Poet Laureate Arthur Franklin Mapes, author of the Official State Poem, was born and lived near Bixler Lake most of his life.
