Oct. 22, 1969 at 20 yrs. 2 mo. of age
His VH-1 helicopter crashed during
an extraction mission killing five and injuring
door gunner Long and three others:
SP4 Long died from his injuries 12 days later
at the 106" General Hospital Japan:
Southeastern High School honored Shelby with
an honorary H.S. degree and a memorial
stone on school property on May 31, 2015.
he was raised in Harrison, Twsp. OH.
