Inscription.  In 1905 the Boquillas Land and Cattle Company evicted most of the town residents. Rather than leave them to their evictors, townspeople knocked their own houses down with sledgehammers.

The schoolhouse was built around 1920 and was used until the 1940's. Children attended first through seventh grade here, then attended eighth grade in nearby Tombstone. It is built of gypsum block that was made in Douglas, Arizona. The house next to it was where the schoolteacher lived.

At the Fairbank Depot people made connections to destinations such as Bisbee, Nogales and Mexico.

During its lifetime the Fairbank Commercial Building held the General Store, a saloon, and even the town jail. The Post Office operated from 1883 until the early 1970s. To preserve it, BLM has re-roofed and replaced entire walls. The house next door may have been a miner's cabin that was moved into Fairbank and probably reused as a store.

The Montezuma Hotel and saloon were built in 1889 and once stood next to the Fairbank Commercial Building.
