Wyoming in Hamilton County, Ohio — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Wyoming Avenue School Property
Educating Since 1842
Valuing education from the start, Wyoming's early settlers built a wooden school, Sub-district #9, on this site in 1842. It was replaced in 1880 by an eight-room brick building from which Wyoming's first senior class, consisting of five, graduated in 1885. To accommodate Wyoming's growth, a dedicated high school was built here in 1889 allowing the older building to serve as a grammar school. Both were razed in 1928 for construction of a K-12 school designed by renowned Cincinnati architect Samuel Hannaford.
In the decades following, primary schools and Wyoming High School were built elsewhere in the community, leaving this building as a dedicated middle school with its last high school class graduating in 1971.
The school was renovated and expanded in 2015 but retains many key elements of the original 1928 building, thereby honoring the community's historical commitment to education and providing a state-of-the- art learning space for 21st century students.
