1. Wyman Building Marker
The seven-story Wyman, Partidge & Company Building was completed in 1896. Doric columns frame the street-level windows on the Fourth Street faηade of the building, with large arched windows featured on the sixth floor. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a structure contributing to the Minneapolis Warehouse Historic District.
Known as the largest dry goods jobber north of Chicago, Wyman Partridge started business in 1874, operating as a wholesaler to retailers. The company's garment manufacturing facility was located on Fifth Street North, while their new building at 400 First Avenue North was used as an administrative headquarters, a warehouse, and a retail store.
By the late 1920s, the jobber business was changing. The Wyman Partridge Building was reconceived as the Wyman merchandise mart. During the 1970s to 1990s, the building was home to artist studios and galleries. Swervo purchased the building in 2005 and completed a significant modernization. The original plaster walls, barrel vaulted ceilings and hardwood floors remain to this day.
