De kerk van Oud-Valkenburg is in de 11e eeuw, vermoedelijk rond het jaar 1050 door de heren van Genhoes, Schaloen en Sibbe gesticht als een eenbeukig zaalkerkje zonder toren en heeft zich in de loop der tijd ontwikkeld tot het huidige driebeukige kerkgebouw. Het oudste gedeelte vormt het huidige middenschip. De toren dateert uit de 15e of 16e eeuw. In 1660 is een nieuwe kap op het Schip gezet Het tegenwoordige koor en het altaar is in 1757 ontworpen door de Akense architect Johann Josef Couven.

The church of Oud-Valkenburg was founded in the 11th century, probably around the year 1050, by the lords of Genhoes, Schaloen and Sibbe as a single-aisled hall church without a tower and has developed over time into the current three-aisled church building. The oldest part forms the current central nave. The tower dates from the 15th or 16th century. A new roof was placed on the nave in 1660. The current choir and altar were designed in 1757 by the Aachen architect Johann Josef Couven.
