1. Willem Hovy Marker
Ondernemer, filantroop en ARP-politicus Willem Hovy was directeur van brouwerij De Gekroonde Valk op de Hoogte Kadijk. Dit was rond 1900 de grootste brouwerij van ons land. Hij was een sociaal bewogen ondernemer en voerde onder andere een dubbel weekloon in voor werknemers die vader werden. Hovy zat 24 jaar in de Amsterdamse gemeenteraad en was als oprichter en bestuurder betrokken bij talloze maatschappelijke organisaties. Zo was hij samen met zijn 'werklieden' Bart Poesiat en Klaas Kater oprichter van Patrimonium, ooit een grote woningcorporatie en voorloper van het huidige CNV. Ook was hij in 1879 oprichter en tot 1896 de eerste directeur van de Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.
Entrepreneur, philanthropist and ARP politician Willem Hovy was director of the De Gekroonde Valk brewery on Hoogte Kadijk. This was the largest brewery in our country around 1900. He was a socially committed entrepreneur and, among other things, introduced a double weekly wage for employees who became fathers. Hovy served on the Amsterdam city council for 24 years and was involved in numerous social organizations as a founder and director. Together with his 'workers' Bart Poesiat and Klaas Kater, he was the founder of Patrimonium, once a large housing association and predecessor of the current CNV. He was also the founder in 1879 and the first director of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam until 1896.
