1. Tutt Building Marker
Inscription. Charles L. Tutt arrived in Cripple Creek in 1892. From the outset, he was active in mining, real estate, and stock brokering. After scouting the northeastern part of the District, he bought the C.O.D. Mine in Poverty Gulch. Tutt operated the C.O.D. with Spencer Penrose for two years, then sold it to a French consortium for $260,000.

Tutt's real estate ventures also met with success. In 1897, Tutt leased this building to the Miller-Young Brokerage Company. In 1899 alone, Miller-Young played a part in the sale of 236 million shares of mining stock, valued at $34 million

By 1901, Miller and Young outfitted their offices with "call" boards, private conference rooms, and a finely stocked bar. The "call" boards ran private wires to the Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Denver, Chicago, and New York stock exchanges.
