1. The Quebec Hotel Marker

Inscription.
The Quebec Hotel was one of Lewiston's earliest lodging establishments and was in operation at this site from 1902 to 1916.

Being situated across from the RR Depot, it was the first stop in town for many visitors. And they came from all over. Early guest registers document visitors from New England, Chicago, Canada, France, and Ireland. Opera troupes would play there occasionally and it was the popular choice of lodging for the traveling baseball teams of the era, as the after-game party was always at the hotel.

The Quebec Hotel was founded and operated by Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Cauchon of Quebec. The Cauchons were devout Catholics and were also instrumental in establishing the first Catholic congregation in Lewiston.

After the M & H Mill closed the building was used as the Farmers Co-Op Store for many years. In 1935 the north section was demolished but the south end of the original foundation is still standing today and has continued the Cauchon's tradition of hospitality as a restaurant and saloon over many years.
