Inscription.
The "Baldwin's Store," which once stood here, was the first Business in the Town of Many. The town was founded on May 17, 1843, when Judge W.R.D. Speight and others donated 40 acres to the newly-formed Sabine Parish Police Jury for the purpose of creating a parish seat. Baldwin's Store was built by John Baldwin and became the center of the town's government, as it served as a hotel, tavern, general mercantile, post office, city hall and courthouse. The store's architecture was that of a double pin, dog trot log house that was popular in that era.
