Bank of Manitou. Constructed 1925. , The Architect , Designed by Charles E. Thomas 1876-1957. Born in Columbus, Ohio. The son of a British born expert of stone masonry, the Thomas family moved to Denver in 1881 and Thomas began his architectural training there in 1893. He designed numerous homes for prominent members of the Colorado Springs community and notable buildings such as the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun on Cheyenne Mountain, Penrose Stadium at Broadmoor, and The Holy Rosary Chapel in Cascade. He served as mayor of Colorado Springs in 1917. He also served as a member of the Colorado Board of Architect Examiners for 23 consecutive years. He died at age 81 and is buried in Colorado Springs., The Vault , Manufactured by the National Safe Co. founded in 1883 with factory and general offices located in Cleveland, Ohio. Manufacturer of "fire and burglar proof safes and bank vaults", National Safe Company was a bank vault specialist that worked with architects, contractors and builders throughout the U.S. and had representatives and agents in most major cities. The agency that maintained and serviced this beautiful National Safe Co. vault (no. 37607) was the A.A. Keith Co. of Denver, Colorado. It is estimated that the vault door weights approximately one ton.
