From Akershusneset (i.e., here at this port area) on 26 November 26, 1942, started the transport of 736 Jews via the ships "Danube", "Monte rosa" and "Gothenland" to German death camps. Of the 771 deported Jews, 32 survived.

Excerpt (in translation): At the outbreak of war, an estimated 1,800 Jews lived in Norway, including refugees who came to the country in the late 1930s. The first Jew was sent out of the country on 22 May 1941. Ship transport started on 26 November 1942 with the German cargo ship M/S "Donau". The last were sent off to Germany on 15 February 1943.
The prisoner transport ships were docked at the American Line's terminal building at Vippetangen in Bjørvika, which has now been demolished. The historical marker was put up on the nearest building, the Port Authority's shed 42, a few hundred meters further south.
