1. Research Marker
Investment in research and development is crucial for discovering better techniques in industrial production. A variety of new technologies were implemented over the years at Bethlehem Steel, many of which were developed and put to the test at the Homer Research Laboratories atop South Mountain. For example, Bethlehem Steel was the first to use a computer-aided design program to help develop the plans and practices for manufacturing complex sections of steel, such as sheet piling. In addition, the company was the first to install a measurement gauge system on the Combination Mill to accurately determine weight per foot. Many of the artifacts in this park came from Homer Labs.
