1. Thor Solberg Marker
Inscription. Following this route in 1935 Thor Solberg became the first aviator to fly from the USA to Norway. He was the first to carry airmail from New York City to Bergen and Oslo. Based on this flight he was able to give President Roosevelt advice during World War II which helped prevent direct bombing attacks on U.S. Cities, for which the President named him a "Great American."

This flagpole is erected in fullfillment of the wish of
Thor Solberg
and dedicated to him on the 50th anniversary of his pioneer flight from New York to Norway. July 19, 1985
