1. Mark Twain Cave Bur Oak Marker

Inscription. The Mark Twain Cave Bur Oak is located at the entrance to Simm's Cave in Hannibal, Missouri - the boyhood home of Samuel Clemens. Writing as Mark Twain, Clemens related the exciting adventures of Tom and Becky and memorialized the cave he knew from his childhood.

The acorns from the bur oak, or mossy cup oak, are distinguished by very deep, fringed cups. Bur oaks keep a very respectable distance from one another due to their widespread root systems.
