1. Edgar Allen Poe Hackberry Marker

Inscription. The Edgar Allen Poe Hackberry can be found at the Edgar Allen Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia, a few blocks from where the famous author lived. He is most remembered for his dark tales such as "The Raven," "The Pit and the Pendulum," And "The Tell-Tale Heart."

Hackberry is commonly mistaken for the American elm because of their similar leaves. Deeply-grooved, warty bark sets this tree apart from the elm family. Hackberrys are sensitive to a disease called "witches brooms," which results in distorted growth resembling a witch's broom or a bird's nest.
