1. Moving Around The Plant Marker
The Bethlehem Plant was an integrated steel facility, which means it took in raw materials harvested from the earth and transformed them into finished products. To make this happen, there were over 150 miles of railroad tracks, more than 1,000 overhead cranes, and 35,000 workers at its peak.
The full-size (standard-gauge) Philadelphia, Bethlehem, and New England Railroad (PBNE), handled shipments to, from, and within the plant. Shorter runs were often made by smaller, narrow-guage [sic] trains like the orange locomotive here in the park.

PBNE train hauling hot metal cars, (nicknamed submarine cars), that transported molten iron. There is still a fleet of hot metal cars underneath blast furnaces B, C, and D to this day.
