What did it do?
"Charging" is the process of filling up a steelmaking furnace with material to be melted down. This 20-ton diesel-electric locomotive pulled charging buggies full of scrap metal from the stock yard to the charging floors at the Electric Furnace Melt Shop, where a charging machine picked up the boxes of scrap from the buggies and filled the furnaces.
