Inscription. The filled-spandrel concrete arch bridge that previously carried North Street across the Great Miami River was constructed in 1930 and completed in 1931 by the E.F. Smith Construction Company of Indianapolis, Indiana. It replaced a steel whipple truss bridge built around 1900 in the same location. The structure was dedicated June 11, 1931. It linked Downtown Sidney with East Sidney and Dingmansburg. The bridge was designed by Henry Overman and Charles P. Smith of the Ohio Department of Highways, Bureau of Bridges. It contained elements of neoclassical and art deco design to create an aesthetically pleasing entrance into Sidney. The bridge was replaced in 2007 due to its deteriorated condition.
