1. Jonathan Street Marker
Jonathan Street is one of the oldest Black communities in Maryland with Asbury Methodist Church and Bethel/Ebenezer AME Church established in the early nineteenth century. After the Civil War, Black owned businesses flourished creating a stable community. In the mid-twentieth century the Harmony Hotel and the Ship Tea Room were listed in the "Green Book." This guide provided African Americans safe places to patronize during Jim Crow-era segregation.
