1. Monett Railroad YMCA Marker

Inscription. At Sixth and Front Streets in 1898 the Monett Railroad YMCA was built. The YMCA was a very active unit in Monett under the direction of Mr. George J.C. Wilhelm. The YMCA housed railroad workers with clean rooms, hot baths, and even gave people opportunities for Bible study. The Monett YMCA was station number 282, and the facility served the railroad employees and citizens of the local community for forty-five years. Once the YMCA building was torn down during WWII, the bricks were used to build the centralized traffic control dispatching center in Springfield, Missouri.
