1. Pvt Lawrence E. Redmond Memorial

Inscription.
In 1900 the Redmond family moved to Pawtucket from Fall River. Lawrence soon found employment with the Western Union Telegraph Company. Later he worked for the postal telegraph system. He enlisted in the Rhode Island National Guard, Coast Artillery Corps, the 15th Company under Captain Henry E. Conners. "Pawtucket Boys" he was a good boy and soldier, said Captain Connors. He guarded the tin bridges. The old armory on Benefit Street is the rendezvous. Aug. 20, 1917 Lawrence became a member of Battery C 103 Field Artillery - 26th Division volunteering for overseas service. The First Detachment from C Battery sailed on the Panaman the morning of Oct. 21st.

By Cecember the complete battery was assembled at Caetquidan, France. The boys from Rhode Island serving with the 11th French Army Corps. were sent to Chemin de Dames Ridge. On March 21, 1918 he was mortally wounded. He was absolutely fearless said one of his buddies. And so Larry was gone—but not to be forgotten. The first to go over — now with the last to come home.
