A Hotel Has Occupied This Site for Over 150 Years. , Around 1865, Isaac Marker built the Golden Eagle House on the site occupied today by the Inn at Versailles., Harrison Brandon purchased the hotel in 1872 and renamed it the "Brandon House". When Brandon died a few years later, his widow Margaret married Frank Snyder. The hotel became the "Snyder House"., This hotel burned in the devastating fire of 1901, along with most of the downtown business district. It was immediately rebuilt as the Hotel Snyder., The Inn , After the fire, several businesses built and occupied the buildings that would become The Inn in 1993. On North Center was Peschke's Hardware; on the corner of Main and Center was Ward Drug Store; next door to it on Main stood W. C. Beare's Grocery Store and in the back Beare's Coffee Shop. Today those businesses and buildings comprise The Inn's first floor, the Versailles and Lorraine Banquet Rooms; the Alsace Dining Room; the Hotel Lobby and in the back, the food preparation of Michael Anthony's., Timeline at the bottom , 1865 Isaac Marker built the Golden Eagle House hotel on the site occupied by The Inn at Versailles today., 1872 Harrison Brandon and wife Margaret (Ward) purchased the Golden Eagle House and renamed it the Brandon House., 1876 The Town Hall was completed to serve as the hub of government activities for the village and township., 1877 Frank Snyder married Harrison Brandon's widow and the hotel became the Snyder House., 1901-1902 A devastating fire destroyed the hotel, along with six business blocks and 38 residences in the heart of the village. The Hotel Snyder was immediately rebuilt., 1909 George H. and Amelia Worch purchased the hotel. Allen Wilson managed the hotel until 1929 followed by James and Bertha Beare who also operated a restaurant on site., 1945-1975 Ross Ward, longtime owner of Ward Drug Store, purchased the hotel. It became the Ward Hotel, The Beare's continued as managers until 1950., 1976-1992 Carl Subler Trucking (and others) purchased the hotel and adjoining properties. After a complete remodel, the hotel opened as The Versailles Hotel., 1992 Renaissance Corp, a subsidiary of Midmark, purchased the hotel and adjoining properties. The hotel underwent an extensive remodel., 1993 The Inn at Versailles opened to the public with 23 suites and rooms on the second floor. A Dining Room, 2 Banquet Rooms, Hotel Lobby and Michael Anthony's food preparation area are on the first floor.,
