(English translation, as accessed through the QR code provided on the marker:)

The name "Froidthier" comes from "thier" (steep slope) and "froid" meaning cold...

Previously served by a railway line, the little locality of Froidthier thrived thanks to its sheet factory run by the Snoeck family, which employed numerous workers. A terrible fire destroyed the factory completely in 1888, causing an exodus of workers to the Verviers region.

Today, Froidthier is the grassiest area of Thimister-Clermont. The hamlets of Corbillon, Winandchamps, Les Trixhes, Bruyères and Chaumont are genuine havens for walkers.

Chaumont is home to a memorial dedicated to the heroic New-Zealand pilots who fell during a battle of World War II.

Set on the frontier between Froidthier and La Minerie, Chaumont spring, already used in the 1400s by the monks of Val-Dieu, saved the local inhabitants from the terrible

droughts of 1921, 1947 and 1976.

Just a short distance away lies the superb chapel of Notre-Dame des Anges, also known as the "Tchapèle è trô".

The current church before us, adorned with an alcove harbouring the statue of Saint Giles and his deer, was built in 1845.

A little further down, near the Aubel crossroads, the second Belgian soldier was killed on August 4th, 1914. A section of the 2nd regiment of Lancers had taken position inside the church tower to observe the enemy's progress.
