By God's design, great things come from small beginnings, as does the oak from the acorn. For the puzzle to become complete, one must begin with the first piece. Each member of our parish family is an inter-locking piece of a jigsaw puzzle. Each decade as our 'puzzle' is assembled, may it ever more clearly portray the face of Christ.
We have built up on the foundation of the past. The foundation is Jesus Christ, yesterday, today and forever. The new Religious Education Wing and Multi-Purpose Building were born of the hopes and dreams, the labor and research of the pastors, pastoral leaders and parishioners of yesterday and today.
As far back as October 1990, a Parish Space Utilization and Requirements Survey revealed the need for more adequate classroom and meeting space, office, storage and parking space. In February 1992, a Needs Assessment Survey conducted by the Parish Pastoral Council indicated a significant need for spiritual growth and facility development. In July 1993, His Eminence William Cardinal Keeler granted permission to proceed with the process of exploring the feasibility of a physical plant expansion. On April 5, 1995, James Olivarri & Associates were hired to provide professional services for a feasibility study to determine the immediate and future development needs.
The astoundingly successful Heritage Hope Capital Campaign allowed us to repair the rectory and renovate the small church, atrium and sanctuary and to retain the professional services of Duane, Cahill, Mullineaux & Mullineaux (Architect) and Bruchey Builders, Inc. (General Contractor). The Groundbreaking Celebration for the new Religious Education Wing and Multi-Purpose Building occurred on June 23, 2002, with the Most Rev, W. Francis Malooly, our Western Vicar, as presider and homilist at the concelebrated Mass. And by December 2003, both new buildings were being occupied. An Open House was held on February 15, 2004.
The new buildings present multiple challenges and opportunities. The Multi-Purpose Hall with a gym, a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen and storage room, together with the new Religious Education Wing with the large classrooms, meeting spaces and administrative offices will host gatherings and activities that will enrich and nurture the body, mind and spirit of our parish family. The new buildings will enhance the life and mission of our parish in the five areas of evangelization, liturgy, religious education, stewardship, and social outreach to the local community and even beyond the parish boundaries to the south-central region and the whole Church of Baltimore.
"So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone. Through him the whole structure is held together and grows into a temple sacred in the Lord; in him you are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit."
(Ephesians 2: 19-22)
