An expedition against the hostile Indian nations which checked the aggressions of the English and Indians on the frontiers of New York and Pennsylvania, extending westward the dominion of the United States.
Chonodote
A village of the Cayuga Nation surrounded by fields and large orchards occupied this spot. It was taken and destroyed by a detachment of some 600 men from the Army of Major-General John Sullivan under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel William Butler of the 4th Pennsylvania Regiment on September 23-24, 1779.
Nearby to the southwest on the Morgan grounds are the remains of the first white settlement in Cayuga County, the house build by Captain Roswell Franklin, survivor of Wyoming, in 1789.
