Hereford Train Station
Constructed in brick with slate root main features are the Bath stone dressings to doors and cusped lance windows, stepped gables, each one finished with a final ten feet high and a roof line dominated by decorative chimney stacks. The first class refreshment rooms had stained glass windows and screen.
In design the main station complex was described as being typical of buildings from the Tudor and Elizabethan periods. The architectural treatment of the building would now be described as Gothic Revival.
When completed during January and February 1836 passengers were able to leave a booking hall and indirect access on to a platform with an overall rain shed. A central concourse separated the terminal lines of the Hereford, Ross and Gloucester and the Shrewsbury and Hereford.
Other rooms included separate Board Rooms for each of the railway companies, refreshment and waiting rooms, parcel and luggage offices Station Masters office, and Station Masters residence.
