Regarding Historic Grossdale Station. This station building had been slated for demolition in the 1970s, but was saved thanks to the efforts of local preservationists. In 1981, it was lifted from its foundation and moved across the train tracks to its current spot. The current Brookfield Metra station sits today on the original Grossdale Station location.
Grossdale is named for Samuel E. Gross, whose Hollywood and Grossdale subdivisions from the late 1800s eventually became modern Brookfield. Grossdale was the first area developed, around 1889, near the Chicago

In this view from the station's porch, the BNSF railway can be seen in the background. The artillery piece is behind a 1935 war memorial dedicated by a local American Legion post.
