More about this memorial. The marker sits in front of a World War II-era 3-inch anti-tank gun, which was dedicated after the war and refurbished in 2016. It replaced a World War I-era cannon that originally sat in front of Brookfield's village hall but was removed in 1942 to be melted down for the war effort.
Regarding Veterans Memorial. Edward Feely was the first and only man from Brookfield to die in World War I. Feely enlisted in the field artillery and was later selected for the newly formed Motor Mechanic Corps. He died in Romorantin, France, on September 27, 1918. The funeral was held in his home on Burlington Avenue and he was buried at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Hillside, about five miles from this memorial.
Feely Post 190 disbanded in 2016.
