Washers & Tools
Built: 1916
| | Historic North Loop | |
Built as a warehouse and showroom for Maytag when it was still best known for farm implements, this facility ultimately became a regional center for appliance sales and distribution. The company's motorized washing machines, introduced around 1910, were wildly popular and became Maytag's primary product in the 1920s. The company used this facility for 44 years before moving to St. Louis Park in 1960.
One of the citys oldest hardware stores, Gardner Hardware a (founded 1884), then took over the space and operated here for 55 years before the family sold the business in 2015.
This building, with its golden brown glazed brick, was designed by acclaimed architect Christopher Boehme.
Erected by North Loop Neighborhood Association.
