Excerpt (in translation): The workers' blocks in Ruseløkkveien 60 were built in 1881 by the philanthropic company "Arbeiderboligen av 1851". The architect was Hjalmar Welhaven and the project was awarded a silver medal at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1889.(Submitted on July 24, 2024.)
Arbeiderboligen av 1851 ("Workers' housing of 1851") was founded by Christiania's police chief Christian Frederik Jacob von Munthe af Morgenstierne together with a number of socially interested citizens. The small apartments were of great help in reducing the housing shortage, but it was still not completely social housing construction. Only workers with relatively "high" wages could afford to live here.
