Pellerin's Margarine Factory - established here in 1876 as the Nordics' first producer. Promoters the Brothers Sundt and the Frenchman Auguste Pellerin. Expanded to larger premises in Borggata 7, 1893. Production ceased and moved to Tromsø in 1954.

Excerpt (in translation): One evening in Paris in 1874, two young men met, Norwegian Eilert Sundt and French Edmond Auguste Pellerin. Pellerin was the son of a factory owner who produced "artificial butter", a new product intended to relieve France's malnourished population. Pellerin thought the product had to be suitable in sun-poor Norway, and Sundt agreed. Together(Submitted on July 24, 2024.)with his two brothers, he established the Nordics' first margarine factory, with Pellerin's son as director. The Sundt brothers ran Nitedal's Tændstikfabrik and brought workers from there to the margarine factory. When the business began in Borggata 7, their first building in No. 1 was used for stables, forge, sewing of uniforms and production of margarine boxes. The farm was sold to Steen & Strøms Furniture Factory, which used the premises for a warehouse, carpentry workshop, sewing room and furniture production.Photographed by Andrew Ruppenstein, July 9, 20242.
