1. King of the Cowboys Marker
What started as a publicity program by Republic Pictures became a reality for Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. The American Public made him number one or "King of the Cowboys" and likewise Dale Evans "Queen of the West".
Over 80 million motion picture fans followed movies starring Roy Rogers. There were over 2000 Roy Rogers Clubs, the largest in London, England, had over 50,000 members. In addition Roy and Dale made hundreds of personal appearances, TV and Radio shows. Dale always cautioned her children by telling them "You have to watch what you do because your life is the only Bible some people are ever going to read."
Roy gave the Cowboy a new image and was a role model for the youth of his era. He was as much a gentlemen off the screen as he was in his movies.
Roy, a part Choctaw Indian. was born in 1911 just six years before William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody died. Both men loved children. Roy and Dale had a total of nine children. Each man possessed a charismatic appeal to the young and old alike. Each had a reputation as a square shooter -- someone you could trust.
