Sa pook na ito ipinatayo ang simbahan at kumbento ng San Nicolas de Tolentino ng Order of Augustinian Recollects (OAR) sa kagandahang-loob ni Bernardino del Castillo Maldonado, 1608. Nagsilbing pangunahing kumbento ng mga Recoletos sa Pilipinas, Tsina, Hapon at Marianas Islands. Kilala sa pagiging maadorno at sa malaking kampanaryo. Ang simbahan ay napinsala ng lindol, 30 Nobyembre 1645. Tuluyang nawasak 20 Agosto 1658, muling ipinatayo subalit gumuho dahil sa lindol, 1722; at ipinatayong muli, 1780. Nagtamo ng malubhang pinsala noong labanan sa Maynila, 1945; tuluyang nagiba, 1959. Idinambana sa simbahan ang mga imahen ng Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno, Virgen De la Salud, San Jose at Santa Kucia. Nanirahan sa Kumbento ang naging Santo na si Ezekiel Moreno, and apat na banal na martir ng Hapon, ang banal na si Vicente Soler at anf apat pang martir ng Motril sa Espanya.

of the Recollects in the Philippines, China, Japan and Mariana Islands. Known to have adorned decorations and large bell tower. The church was damaged in the earthquake of November 30, 1645. Finally collapsed, August 20,1658. Rebuilt but destroyed by an earthquake, 1722; Reconstruct again, 1780. Heavily damaged during the Battle of Manila, 1945; completely destroyed, 1959. The image of the Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno, Virgen de la Salud, San Jose and Santa Lucia was once enshrined here. Ezekiel Moreno who became a saint lived in the convent, as did the four holy martyrs of Japan, the holy Vicente Soler and the four martyrs from Motril, Spain.
