The Formation of the Association
North Platte established the Mutual Building and Loan Association in 1887. The association was lead by many prominent leaders and allowed the average citizen to afford a home. By 1914, the Mutual Building and Loan Assoc. had grown to the point where they needed a more permanent location. It was decided to build on the corner of Locust St. and 5th St, due to the proximity of the Federal Building and the Lincoln County Courthouse. The building is 40 ft x 80 ft with 2 stories and a finished basement. The new Mutual Building was built in the most up-to-date fashion, with electricity, telephone wires, steam heat, and design. The building was home to many offices including doctors, lawyers, and a print shop. In 1963, the Mutual Savings and Loan Association moved to a new location.
