1. Fellsburg Marker
Benjamin Fell and William Beazell donated the land for and built primitive Fells Church, a Whiskey Rebellion site. In 1794 Benjamin's property was a reward for letting Revolutionary War Soldiers use his Bucks County home and tannery to make shoes. During his 1825 tour Lafayette visited the log church, later a school that evolved into Lebanon Elementary and today's Westmoreland County Community College extension. William Beazell married Benjamin's daughter Rebecca. In 1835 he bought the Fell homestead and laid out Webster, which boasted three hotels by 1876.
William's son Benjamin Fell Beazell married Sally Sampson in 1820. Sally's father was a Revolutionary War veteran who operated the Black Horse Tavern at the head of Webster Hollow. The couple lived in the nearby Daily House on modern Route 51. South, the tavern, Webster and finally the Fell house. Fellsburg's Fort Hill is a late Monongahela Indian village site between one in Webster and another near Rankin's Crossroads.
Erected 2004 by Jean Westermean and Rostraver Township Historical Society in memory of its Founder Harry Lloyd Thompson.
