1. Depot & Coal Shute Marker

Inscription. The Union Springs Train Depot was built in 1899. Although the building no longer exists, this mural memorializes it as a significant landmark in the town's early 20th century experience. The depicted Coal Chute loaded coal into the tender of steam engines and was built in 1925 as a replacement for the community's previous coal chute which had burned. This towering concrete structure can still be seen today near the bed of the abandoned Montgomery & Eufaula Railroad where it dominates the surrounding landscape.
