1. SAGMI Marker
Inscription. SAGMI, an acronym for "Surface Attack Guided Missile," was one of many developmental vehicles tested by the Air Force at White Sands for the purpose of attacking ground targets. The missile was launched from aircraft at a safe distance so the crew was protected from ground anti-aircraft fire. Layout and dimensions of the SAGMI vehicle are similar to the Beech AQM-37A target drone, and it seems likely that SAGMI prototypes were based on that design. The first flight occurred in 1972.
